Surge in Retiring CIOs and Open Source in Higher Ed
I read an article recently in Campus Technology citing predictions that 25% of higher education CIOs will retire within the next five years and 50% in the next 10 years. This means that within five years, approximately 1,000 institutions will have new IT leaders. What will this “changing of the guard” mean for how colleges and universities think about and use technology? What will be the legacy of the current generation of IT leaders in higher education, and what can we expect from the next generation?
